Hello!
I am so excited to be relaunching my brand and I thought, what better way than by having my first post tell you all a little more about myself. Not that I ever enjoy talking about myself in this manor, but part of this blog is to connect with others and to be open and honest about myself and life, and fashion of course! It’s so easy to hid behind a phone these days and not let people see the real you, and I don’t want that. So in saying all this, it leads me into why I started this blog/brand.
Oddly enough, I used to be the biggest tom boy and even wore boy's clothes! Even though I dressed different then, I still loved shopping and having lots of clothes, ha. My taste in clothes has changed over the years, but my height did not…. I am 5’ 1”, and have been since about the 6th grade. As I got older, I tried to dress like my tall and lean friends but some of the styles just didn't work for me (and still don't). While this isn't a bad thing, I do have to put a little bit more thought into how I dressed myself, which is still a learning process even today. Long story short, this blog was inspired by my unique body type, petite height but athletically built. I know I’m not the only one out there with this dilemma so as I mentioned before, I want to connect with others in order to grow/learn together!
So with that said, now onto the fashion!
You know a little bit more about my background, but currently state I am absolutely loving the midi style. I quickly thought that a midi dress (or skirt) weren't meant for petites like me. It didn't take long to be proven wrong, but I did realize I have to be a bit more selective about the midi styles I wear. So this post is to give advice on styles I've found that work really well!
Structured Waist Band
One trick I’ve found is to have a structured waist band if the fabric is more full. This helps give definition to my waist and shape my mid section, rather than getting lost in all the fabric. A structured waist band is great with a tule or pleated midi skirt.
Fitted
Fitted midis used to scare me. I don't always have a super flat tummy, so I used to hide from anything fitted. Looking back at pictures, I realized I was actually doing myself a disservice because unfitted items made me look larger. I had no shape. This style midi has given me luck because it gives shape. I wear a highwaisted one that can also work a bit like spanx! Then I typically wear a less fitted shirt (not a baggy one though) so I don't feel like I'm suffocating.
Monochromatic
This is a trick to always keep in your back pocket. Not only does a monochromatic look help a petite look taller, but it also provides a slimmer illusion. If you wear a midi dress, try to pair it with shoes that are the same color or close to the same. If you're doing a skirt, match the color of your shoes and skirt, your top and skirt, or all three!
XOXO,
Nicholette
